Dedication:
The person initially responsible for my knowledge of and inter-
est in kobudo, especially in the nunchaku, is the late Okinawan
karate master Kenshin Taira. It was on one of my visits to Okina-
wa that Master Taira consented to take me under his wings and
instruct me in weapons. Mr. Taira, who lived to be nearly 80 years
of age, was a living legend-a perfect example of the gentle spirit
of the martial arts.
Equally as motivating was one of Japan's foremost weapons
experts, Ryusho Sakagami, who was my personal instructor in
Japan.
