REP. JOHN K. MORRIS
Of Chandwick, Illinois. . .

. . . the one man most instrumental in bringing about
public awareness of the purple martin in Illinois through his
introduction of House Bill 1058 in the Illinois General
Assembly in 1965. In the face of inevitable controversy and
without the any prospect of personal gain, he went to bat for
the birds with a philosophy summarized in these words of his:
"It is our wish to give full, and long overdue, credit to
creatures that nature has contrived to exert her balance on other
creatures of unimaginable fecundity and which possess a will to
survive that surpasses and laughs at all mankind's skills in
chemical formulation."
